Bio

Carla Gasparrini (1997). Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, she currently lives and works in Barcelona, Spain.

From an early age, she became involved in the visual arts, initially training in the studios of Daniel Fusaro and Viviana Zargón. Between 2014 and 2018, she attended the workshop of artist and restorer Lucas Rocino, where she deepened her interest in drawing and line work. In 2016, she began a Bachelor's Degree in Visual Arts at the Universidad Nacional del Arte (Argentina), and between 2020 and 2022, she studied on a scholarship at the Universidade de Vigo (Spain), where she completed her degree.

Her artistic practice is shaped by memory, everyday life, and emotional bonds, with a constant search to define a shared space between art and design. She embraces manual techniques as a form of resistance to contemporary speed, finding in the pencil a bridge between the external world and her inner universe. Her work engages with people and places that have held significance in her life, exploring landscapes shaped by experience, time, and silence.

She has participated in exhibitions in Argentina, Brazil, Spain, Portugal, and the United States, in institutions such as the Raúl Lozza Museum of Contemporary Art (Argentina), Fundación Casa Pronto (Junín), Puente Blanco Cultural Centre (San Luis), CTJV Gallery (Portugal), Pinta Lima (Peru), Fig Bilbao (Spain), Pazo de la Cultura (Pontevedra), and ARCO Madrid 2023 (Spain), among others.

In 2021, she curated the international exhibition Espazos Cóncavos y Convexos in Pontevedra, bringing together young Latin American and Spanish artists. She has been awarded the Special Prize Javier Rosón Pérez from Fundación Ankaria (Spain, 2023), and received a scholarship from the Pigments Revealed Symposium (USA).

She is a member of Instantes Gráficos, a collective that has been publishing, promoting, and exhibiting artist books in Argentina for over 25 years. She is also part of the Associació de Pintors de les Places Sant Josep Oriol i Pi, a historic open-air painting exhibition in Barcelona (Spain).

Her work is held in collections such as Fundación Ankaria (Madrid), the New York Public Library (USA), Biblioteca Enric Bricall (Barcelona), and in private collections in the United States and Spain.

Statement

There is a strong connection in my work to my everyday life, my memory, and the way I perceive the world around me—where the pencil becomes a bridge between the outer world and my inner self.

I'm drawn to working with the people who mean something to me and in the spaces that have allowed me the freedom to create and to be.

In my practice, art and design are one and the same, and I’m constantly exploring the grey areas born from their intersection. I choose the handmade because there is meaning in its slowness—because my days, my relationships, and my way of observing spaces and the people who gave me freedom reside there. In the digital, I see beauty and precision—but also a certain distance. When combined with the hand-drawn line, that distance becomes tender.

In this time of rapid consumption, I want to preserve what is seen slowly: landscapes traveled by memory, places where people are no longer present but still speak.
My work cannot be replicated—it is born from lived experience. Because the circle, like a window, lets me glimpse who I am.
